Who Hates Land Agents

March 27th, 2010

One of the problems when looking for rental properties is that most of the time you have to deal with real estate agents.

We went & looked at a rental property yesterday which looked alright on the website it was advertised on. We looked all through the property & then had some questions for the agent who was supposed to be looking after the property.

It was like talking to a brick layer about plumbing; every question we had she said “I don’t know, ask the owner”. Is it not their job as the property manager to know about the property they are dealing with??

How are you supposed to look at a property for 5 minutes and then make a decision without getting further information. There are certain things that you cannot know just by viewing something, and if the agent doesn’t know, then who the heck does.

Anyway in the end that property wasn’t suitable for our family. So we’ll keep looking.

Oh yes, real estate agents! I could tell you some stories…
The last real estate agent I rented off in Cannington was shocking. They never returned calls and took ages to send someone around to fix things (something was ALWAYS going wrong with the house). They used one handyman for several hundred properties and why they didn’t hire another handyman I don’t know. I got sent letters threatening eviction because I hadn’t paid my rent (but I had) so I rang up and complained and they apologised but that didn’t stop the letters. When I wanted to break my lease, they said I had to find someone when it is THEIR responsibility and only if they can’t do I need to pay double rent. Aaargh I could go on but I’ll stop there. Best of luck with the house hunting. If you were moving to Albany I’d recommend my dad. He’s a good property manager.
